As one of Canada’s premier chefs, Steve Gonzales is renowned for his innovative approach to cooking, his emphasis on bold flavours and textures, and his use of seasonal, natural and sustainable food.

Born to Colombian parents, raised in
Toronto, Steve has spent 30 years in kitchens. In 2013 he launched Valdez, a taste of Latino Street Food and one of the city’s best block parties. Then in 2016 he opened his next venture, Baro.

The four-storey heritage building still continues to be one of the city’s top eateries, bringing elevated nuevo Latino food to downtown Toronto — and of course, one hell of a party. At Montezuma Latino Beach Food, Steve fills his menus with thoughtful reimaginings of Latin American classics and brings new life to the tipico.

Yindra Liska

Born in San José, Costa Rica and raised in, Cóbano, Puntarenas. At her late 20’s she moved to Canada, where she lived for almost 7 years. Her first job was Valdez, Steve’s first restaurant. After the years, they decided to give it a chance, they had a date and the magic happened.
Canada was the land where they started this amazing adventure. They adopted Papichulo, the fattest australian shepherd you will ever meet and Victoria was born, their beautiful princess. “I love this industry with all my heart. I live and breath for it. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my friends, my family, my customers smiling with good food and good drinks, and only a restaurant can give us that satisfaction”, says Yindra.
